When are OC results released in 2026?

If you sat the 8–9 May 2026 Opportunity Class Placement Test, the waiting is the hard part. For months the official language has been "Term 3". That was true, but it wasn't a date you could put on the fridge.

The NSW Department of Education now lists 9 September 2026 as the expected date for OC placement outcomes (Year 5 entry in 2027). You can see it on the official application process page.

The date, in plain English

9 September is an expected date, not a guarantee. The Department can still move it. Treat it as the planning date: check your email that morning, log in to the application dashboard, and don't assume a delay means something went wrong with your child's result.

For context, Selective High School outcomes for Year 7 entry in 2027 are expected earlier, on 19 August 2026. OC outcomes usually land a few weeks later. That pattern has held this year.

How you'll actually get the result

You will not get a score in the post. When outcomes are released:

  • You'll get an email telling you the outcome is available.
  • Log in to your application dashboard.
  • Open the Action menu (three dots) and select View outcomes.
  • From there you can view the placement outcome and the student performance report. Here's how to read the bands.

Keep your contact details up to date in the dashboard before 9 September. If the email goes to an old address, the result is still in the dashboard — you just won't get the nudge.

What you will (and will not) see

The outcome is a placement decision, not a school report. You should see one of these:

  • An offer at one of your listed schools.
  • Reserve list only — no immediate offer, but still in line if places open.
  • An offer plus a higher-choice reserve — you can accept the offer and stay on the list for a preferred school, until the reserve decision date.
  • Unsuccessful — no offer and not on a reserve list.

You will not get a percentage, a rank, or a school cut-off score. The performance report places your child in one of four bands for Reading, Mathematical Reasoning and Thinking Skills: top 10%, next 15%, next 25%, or lowest 50% of candidates.

What to do between now and 9 September

Do not start a new intensive prep cycle "just in case". The OC test for this cycle is done. There is no resit.

  • Do keep the dashboard login handy and your email current.
  • Do decide, before the day, how you'll tell your child. A short, calm plan beats an anxious live reaction.
  • Don't let the wait become the main topic at home. The result does not measure whether your child is "smart".
  • Don't treat OC as the last word on selective. They are separate tests. Here's what to do after OC results, either way.

The dates that follow 9 September

Once outcomes are out, two more dates matter: the outcomes appeal deadline on 16 September 2026, 11:59 pm, and the reserve decision date on 3 December 2026, 3:00 pm. We have the full timeline on our OC Test 2026 dates page.

Always confirm on the NSW Department of Education key dates page before you act. Expected dates can still change.
